Last week we wrote a blog post about Anskars bucket list. Today, the second part goes online. This time Lea will present her goals and wishes for 2018.

People who know me know that I love traveling and that I could not stay a year without it. So, that’s why I will start my personal bucket list with my 2018 travel goals.
And of course, 2018 started and I am still dreaming of going back to Africa. But I want to make this list realistic and Africa is probably not going to happen this year. Nevertheless, I still have so many other travel goals for this year. Not as far away and hot as Africa, but definitely worth a visit.
As Anskar already mentioned in his personal bucket list we want to explore Germany a bit more. I always thought Germany is boring, we do not have any nature or wildlife and I already know everything anyway. The last years proved me wrong. We have almost 100 Nature Parks and 16 National Parks, whereof I have visited only 3. Furthermore, we have about 90 species of mammals including European bison and the Eurasian Wolf and more than 500 bird species. In fact, Germany is one of the most diverse countries in Europe.
So, my travel goals for 2018 is to discover our German wilderness a bit more. One of the top National Parks I want to visit is the National Park Berchtesgaden in Southern Germany. This beautiful National Park is characterized by stunning mountains as well as idyllic lakes. And when I am already in the South, why not making a detour to the Bavarian Forest and/or the Black Forest?! Besides, I like to explore the Teutoburger Forest (north of the German Central Uplands) a bit more too. I grew up on the edge of the north-western part of this forest, but I have barely seen anything of this 105km long forest complex.
Talking about foreign countries, my bucket list basically looks like the one of Anskar. I definitely want to visit Norway and Iceland. These countries are actually on my bucket list for a long time now. And who knows, maybe I even have the chance to see the northern lights, which would be an absolute dream.
Study and Work
In regards to study and work, 2018 will be a very important year for us as we are going to finish our bachelor study, Wildlife Management! In December 2017 we already finished the last big part of our curriculum: our major internship in Sri Lanka. Now, since the beginning of February we started with our Bachelor Thesis which will be the completion of our study. And of course, my goal is to finish this study successfully.
We are very excited about the future and where the path will lead us! Our current plan is to follow a Master study in Wildlife Ecology, but who knows what will happen along the way. Between my Bachelor and Master, I would love to gain more experience in wildlife research and management or just in general some work experience. Let´s see what will happen. We will keep you posted!
Personally, I definitely want to reduce my plastic waste in 2018. Plastic is just everywhere in our society. It almost seems impossible to not use plastic in our everyday lives. Even now, while writing this blog post I am sitting in front of plastic framed laptop monitor and plastic keyboard. And the bad thing is more than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year. This plastic pollution is not only bad for all the wild animals out there and the environment but also for our health as we take in micro-plastics through food and cosmetics.
So, in 2018 I want to reduce my personal plastic waste but also educate and inform other people about this problem.
Here are 6 ways to reduce plastic which I will try to follow in 2018:
- Using cloth bags instead of plastic bags when going shopping
- Using paper straws or no straws at all instead of disposable straws
- Using reusable water bottles or buying glass bottles
- Using reusable lunch boxes instead of single-serving packaging
- Using a personal to-go mug instead of disposable plastic mugs
- Buying non-packaged veggies and fruits
So that’s it: my bucket list for 2018! Do you have similar goals are questions about my ones? Let me know in the comments what your ideas are!
